The preservation group began with a leaking roof. The Town of Camillus history says the Central New York chapter of the National Railway Historical Society learned in 1964 that Martisco Station was scheduled for demolition. Martisco Station Railway Museum.
A lease from the New York Central followed in early 1965, then a purchase the next year. The account describes members gathering furniture from other abandoned stations, reconnecting water and electricity and replacing the roof. Keeping the building meant repairing it as well as acquiring it. Martisco Station Railway Museum.
The brick station dated to 1870, replacing a wooden predecessor. The town connects its Martisco name with Marcellus and Otisco and the 1905 short-line reorganization. Its later museum history is a separate chapter from the trains it once served. Martisco Station Railway Museum.

- What the records establish
- The municipal account gives a 1964–1966 sequence from demolition threat to lease and purchase, followed by restoration work.
- What remains uncertain
- The lease and sale instruments have not been inspected. A separate passenger-train date on the town page is internally inconsistent and is not adopted here. Its undated service and opening-hour statements are not current guidance.
- What we are researching next
- Find the chapter’s 1964–1966 minutes, lease, deed and dated restoration photographs. Check the wider passenger chronology against actual railway timetables.
